The early game in the World Cup on Friday morning will come from Group B, as Wales look to keep their dreams of progression alive. They will come up against an Iran side that were humbled in their opening fixture in the group by England.

World Cup 2022 Preview

There will be pressure on both Iran and Wales to get the victory in their second fixtures in Group B on Friday morning. Wales will come into the fixture full of confidence, as they earned a point on their return to the World Cup against the United States. The Welsh were very slow to get started in that opening fixture, and they were fortunate to be just 1-0 down at the break.

However, it was a different story in the second half, as the introduction of Keiffer Moore changed the game in their favour. Wales pressed for the equalising goal throughout the second half, and finally got their chance after Gareth Bale was brought down for a penalty. The former Real Madrid superstar made no mistake from the sport, as he scored his nation’s first goal at the World Cup since 1958.

Iran came into the World Cup in excellent form, with many experts claiming that their low block could cause serious issues for the nations that they would come up against in Group B. However, England make a mockery of those claims in the opening fixture in Group B, as they broke through Iran’s resistance on six occasions.

The one bright spark was the performance of Porto striker Medhi Taremi, who was forced to feed off very little throughout the match. Despite that, he still scored twice with his only sights of goal in the match against the Three Lions.

Wales vs Iran Head to Head

Wales and Iran have clashed on just one previous occasion. That fixture was played back in April 1978, with Wales claiming a 1-0 win. Wales also has an excellent record against nations from Asia, having gone seven without defeat. Meanwhile, they have conceded just once.

Wales vs Iran Prediction

It has been a long wait for a Wales win at the World Cup, but we could see that run coming to an end at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Friday. We once again expect Moore to be the vocal point, and we could see the striker scoring in a 2-0 win.
